The Official Fairfield Indian Football Game Summary

2021 Game Summary: Oak Hills

Volume: 4

Issue: 8

672 days!! That is how many days it has been since Alumni Stadium was full and rocking as our Indians beat the brakes off Hamilton in the 1st round of the 2019 OHSAA Division One State Playoffs. While it has been a trying and difficult 18 months for all of us, there was a palpable, collective feeling of normalcy last Friday night as we welcomed Oak Hills to Alumni Stadium for the first home contest of the 2021 season. In front of a huge and raucous crowd, our Indians defeated the Highlanders 34-14 in what, we hope, is the catalyst to get the “Dub Train” rolling again!

The defense settled in and really controlled the contest. Led by a ferocious and energetic linebacking group including Senior Co-Captain Quentin Gehm (6 tackles, 1 sack) Junior Kavi Bivins (7 tackles, 1 sack) and Sophomore Dorian Soriano (7 tackles) the defense set the tone early and didn’t let up. In the back end the secondary really began to gel and play like the unit we know they can be. Senior Trent Stephenson (3 tackles, 3 PBU’s) along with Juniors Ray Coney (5 tackles) and Isaiah Glover (2 tackles, 1 int) had the Oak Hills wide receivers on “lock” and eliminated any threat of a big play. The biggest play of the game, however, was produced by the most unlikely player. Junior defensive lineman Aamir Rogers intercepted an Oak Hills pass at our 10-yard line and raced back 90 yds for a “pick six” that ended any chance of a Highlander comeback!

On offense, our Indians were efficient and effective running and throwing the football. Sophomore Co-Captain and QB Talon Fisher (2 TD’s) along with Junior RB Ki’Arran Love (1 TD) led the way on the ground as we averaged over 6 yards per carry. Senior WR’s Nate Hannah (4 carries for 45 yds and 2 receptions) and Christian Jackson (2 rec. 66 yds) led the way through the air in an efficient and consistent performance. We must limit self-inflicted wounds (turnovers and penalties) if we want to achieve the lofty goals this group has set for themselves.

Our Indians travel to Princeton this Friday for a crucial GMC contest against a very good Viking team. We need the best student section in the state-THE TRIBE- so show up and show out and help propel us to victory. Your support is crucial in keeping the “Dub Train” rolling! See you Friday Night!
