As our Indians begin the 2nd half of the 2021 season, it is apparent that there is a fresh, new and contagious energy resonating from this team. They have embraced the “new season” mantra that the coaches have preached as the 2nd season has begun. In a 28-14 dismantling of rival Hamilton at Alumni Stadium, it seems as though our Indians are beginning to peak at just the right time as we make a drive for the playoffs.

Defensively, our young and improving group continues to flash the aggressive style that Coach Hembree and the defensive staff require. Led by senior DL Jonelle Lattimore, the defensive line was stout and physical. While Jonelle won’t have the flashy statistics that many are used to, his ability to not be moved and demand double teams (which frees up our LB’s to make plays) are invaluable! The linebackers were led by senior co-captain Quentin Gehm (7 tackles), juniors Kavi Bivins (7 tackles, 1 sack) and Matthew Humbarger (8 tackles, 2 TFL’s, 1 Sack) who did not give the little blue offense time to breath with their relentless, attacking mentality. In the back end, junior defensive backs Josiah Jackson (5 tackles, 1 PBU, 1 Int.) and Ray Coney (7 tackles) led a fast, aggressive, ball hawking group that continues to improve every week!

Offensively, the goal was to pound the ball behind one of the best offensive lines in the state and we did just that! Led by senior co-captains OL Augie Groh and Kendrix Goodman, along with juniors Dalton Davis, Collin Robinson and Harrison Mensah, and sophomore Isaiah Moore, the O-Line paved the way for more than 300 yards rushing and was dominant the entire night! Running behind these hog mollies and enjoying a night of barely getting touched were sophomore co-captain QB Talon Fisher (80 yds, 1 TD), Junior RB Jordan Jackson (13 carries, 138 yds) and sophomore RB Juesters Fataki (4 carries, 40 yds, 1 TD). This group is gaining confidence and really beginning to come into their own. Swiss Army Knife, do-it-all junior Ki’Arran Love continues to impress with not only his ability to do so many things for this team (run, catch, block) at a high level, but the improvement, week to week, that he is making really has the coaches excited!

Our Indians travel to Lakota West this Friday to take on the conference leading Firebirds in a crucial GMC matchup. We NEED the TRIBE to show up and show out (per usual) and make Friday night feel like a home game for our Indians!
