Friday was a momentous night for Fairfield and head coach Jason Krause.
Not only did the Indians clinch a playoff berth with its 23-0 win over Middletown, Krause set a record for most victories as a Fairfield football coach.
Coach Krause’s 63 wins (over 11 years) broke Coach Ben Hubbard’s mark of 62 wins (over 12 years).
After the game, Krause’s achievement was announced over the PA, and then, surrounded by his family and dozens of current and former players, he gave a short speech after being presented with a game ball by his son Hunter Krause (a Fairfield grad and former QB) and then rang the Victory Bell.
“I am truly blessed to be in this district, at this high school … blessed to work with the people I coach with,” said Krause in a hoarse voice to his family, the players and crowd. “Blessed to coach these young men, all these guys who came back tonight to see this. I am truly blessed.
“I am also blessed to have the family that I have, who truly understand the hours and have been there through all that time. I love everyone here right now … that’s what we do, we’re a family here, we all love each other and are proud to be a family.”
Coach Krause and the rest of Fairfield will hope for win number 64 next week as the first round of the playoffs begin.
