Fairfield’s two senior girl wrestlers were honored Feb. 9 at the team’s first – and last – home meet of the year.
Nearing the end of the regular season, the Indians had a tri-meet against Oak Hills and Sycamore in the Fairfield Freshman School gymnasium. Due to a lack of wrestlers at a number of weight classes, the girls senior night was focused on individual points instead of team points; overall, Fairfield had 8 wins and 1 loss.
Before the matches, seniors Hailee Lewis and Daniella Otisi – accompanied by their families and friends – were introduced to the crowd.
When asked how she felt about her senior night, Lewis said, “I feel like my senior night was one of the best nights I’ve had with my team. From the beginning to the end of the night at our team dinner, the vibes were awesome. Everyone was very positive and uplifting. The support from the parents, coaches, boys team, and everyone else who made an effort to be there really impacted me in a way that gave me the confidence I needed to perform the best.”
Lewis attends Butler Tech and plans to become a corrections officer in the Butler County prison system.
Fellow senior Daniella Otisi also said, “I had a great time during my senior night. I won my match, but the amount of love from my teammates, coaches, and friends made the whole experience even better.”
Otisi is planning to go to college to become a pre-med psychology and IT major.
