Though we are only part way through August, the Fairfield boys and girls soccer seasons are underway … and started with a boom.
Last Friday, the two varsity squads opened their 2024 matches with a doubleheader at Christy Rose Dennis stadium against Turpin.
In the first game, the boys fell behind, but then came roaring back, as John Castillo found the goal twice and Jacob Russell’s corner kick tied it up, 3-3, with just 13 seconds remaining!
In the nightcap, the girls took control, dominating the Spartans 3-0 with two goals by Alayna Townsend and one by Peyton Protzman.
The season opener was made more festive with a giant screen showing the match live along with some special graphics by Assist Digital, and then DJ Don Juan Fasho pumped out some jams, creating a few impromptu dance parties to break out.
The girls, led by former boys coach Christian Johnson, next host Seton on Thursday at 7:15 p.m. The boys, led by new coach Manny Adjei, next play La Salle on Tuesday, Aug. 27 at 7:15 p.m. at home.
