During the fall, it often may seem as if the high school fan sports focus is on Friday nights and football. Some sports, by their very nature and game locations, don’t get as many fans attending their matches and meets.
That is why Fairfield recently held its first Friday Night Under the Lights Senior Night … for non-football sports!
Introduced during the pregame to the Fairfield-Oak Hills football game were senior athletes for boys and girls golf, boys and girls cross-country, and girls tennis. The athletes and their families walked down the track during warmups and were introduced to the crowd by PA announcer Mike Massie, who read their bios.
Each of the sports had previously held Senior Nights for their individual sports, but the athletic department decided to give them a little more attention.
“We wanted to give a better Senior Night ceremony experience for our student-athletes who don’t have a specific large school venue that they participate in,” said Fairfield athletic director Aaron Blankenship.
“We thought there would be no better place to highlight their achievements than in front of a large home football crowd!”
In attendance and being recognized Friday were: Brady Compton (boys golf), Kendall Bennett, Luci Crutcher, Jillian Luckadoo, Morgan Piatt, Keyra Strauss (girls golf), Carson Gagen, Eli Parsell, Bradley Sharpshair, Jeffrey Sharpshair, Conner Snyder (boys cross country), Kayleigh Siebenaller (girls cross country), Adelyn Hussel and Maliah Jett (girls tennis).
