The Fairfield baseball team is just past the midway point of the 2025 spring season, so let’s check in on them.
As of Wednesday (they play almost every day), the Indians, coached by Lance Durham, were 3-11 overall and 2-8 in the Greater Miami Conference.
The three pitchers with victories are juniors Alex Brehm (1-0) and Trent Hapton (1-2, with a shutout), plus senior Evan Hamilton (1-1). Hampton leads the pitching squad with 18 strikeouts.
The top hitting averages belong to sophomore Teagan Lucking (.381), sophomore Blake Morningstar (.364), senior Jeff Sharpshair (.333), and junior Brayden Benge (.310). Lucking also leads the team with 16 hits, followed by Benge and sophomore Beckett Clemmons with 9 apiece. Benge and sophomores Dylan Pogozalski and Colten Owens are tied for leading the team with stolen bases at 5 apiece.
The Indians next return home to Joe Nuxhall Field at Creekside Middle School on Saturday, April 26 against Northmont.
The unique Fairfield uniforms are due to it being one of four special games in baseball, softball and girls and boys lacrosse dedicated to mental health. Fairfield partnered with Mercy Health and several local organizations to host games with the intent of drawing more attention to the growing mental health issues in our community, especially among young adults.
