Homecoming, Cross Country Style Former Indians star introduced as new FHS coach

Former star Fairfield runner and new cross country head coach Adam Thomas (Class of 1997) was introduced to a large crowd of athletes and parents in a meeting held in the Arena lobby Wednesday evening.
Thomas – who will also be an assistant coach for track and field – was a track state champion in the 1600 meters and is also a member of both the Fairfield Athletic and Butler County Sports Halls of Fame. As a coach, Thomas has led teams to state championships, earned Cross-Country Coach of the Year honors eight times, and coached athletes who’ve competed at the national level.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Coach Adam Thomas back to Fairfield cross country!” said district athletic director Aaron Blankenship. “Bringing in one of Southwest Ohio’s most decorated coaches is an incredible opportunity, but having one of the greatest runners in our school’s history leading his alma mater makes it even more special.  I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Fairfield cross country.”
During his introductory speech, Thomas gave some of his background and explained his philosophies behind his coaching style. One of the things that he said his athletes can expect is a daily training plan individualized for each and every runner. He says he will talk to each individual and create workouts based on their goals.
The first team workout will be Monday, Feb. 3. The official track season begins Feb. 24. The cross country summer conditioning meeting will be in late May.
